Carol attended Franklin Consolidated School, graduating in 1944. Carol participated in declam, drama, band and glee club. Carol was a 4-H club member. After graduation Carol attended college in Madison for two years. She taught primary grades for three years. On June 8, 1949, she was united in marriage to William Laible of Howard. In 1950 they moved on to the family farm where they raised four sons and a daughter. They were active in 4-H, sports and music. They graduated from Howard High School. In 1996, the Laible family received a South Dakota Century Farm Award. 4-H work was important throughout Carol’s life, for learning, teaching and homemaking skills. Helping guide young lives was a high priority for her.

Carol was employed as a teacher’s aide for seventeen years in the Howard school system. She served as a 4-H leader and Sunday School teacher. Carol was also actively involved as a member of the Beach United Methodist Church, UMW, American Legion Auxiliary and Civic League. She worked briefly at the Howard Public Library. When the After-School program began she enjoyed her volunteer work there for seven years. Carol conveyed wisdom, faith and joy through bulletin boards and banners she made. She was a willing volunteer for many community projects. Carol especially enjoyed having grandchildren come to their home and felt fortunate to have the families nearby. Young grandchildren were greeted with the alphabet and math flash cards as well as chocolate chip cookies. She was privileged to sew wedding, flower girl and baptism dresses. Carol will be remembered for poetry she wrote for special occasions and her homemade greeting cards. Carol cherished her friendly neighbors and the whole Howard Community.
