Wally farmed in the Howard area all his life. Wally was an active member of the Howard American Legion and was active on the Miner County Weed Board. Wally was a great cook and took great joy in baking Angel Food cakes for people’s birthdays and was always trying out new recipes. Wally was an excellent gardener and enjoyed canning tomatoes and his red cinnamon pickles. Wally loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He really enjoyed fishing with his grandkids. Children in the Howard area knew Wally as the Smarties Candy Man, as he always carried the candy in his pocket.

Also, his 8 grandchildren: Heather Miller, Troy (Krystle) Miller, Andrea (Travis) Hatlestad, Christa (Alex) Coughlin; Brandon (Elora Mathias) Jacobson, Zachary Jacobson, Mason Jacobson, and Brittany Jacobson; his 5 great-grandchildren: Victoria and Owen Hatlestad, Kenzie and Kalli Coughlin, and Silas Miller.
