Shirley was born in Howard, on March 3, 1931. Shirley married Leo Mengenhausen on February 6, 1951. To this union, two daughters were born, LeAnne and Nancy. Shirley and Leo enjoyed 48 wonderful years together.
Shirley was employed at Ben Franklin and later became a CNA at the Howard Nursing Home. After she “retired”, she became a familiar face at the Howard Bakery. When asked why she was still working, she would reply, “It is my coffee money”.
Shirley enjoyed spending the summers with her grandchildren. Shirley’s other great passion was her flowers and plants. When she was no longer able to plant her outdoor flowers, she would bring out her plastic lawn chair and supervise the planting; telling you if they were straight and what flowers went where. Another of Shirley’s passions was having coffee with friends at the Corner Pantry. If you couldn’t find her at home, always check the Corner Pantry. Shirley also enjoyed watching a good Western on TV.
Survivors include her daughters LeAnne (Bob) Richeal; Nancy (Jamie) Pahl; brother LeRoy (Dalrene) Hardick; sister Maxine (Tommy) Johnston; 5 grandchildren Michal Anderson, Joe Richeal, Bryan Richeal, Travis Richeal and Alyssa (Adam) Roseland. 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lucille Hardick; and her husband Leo Mengenhausen.
