Rodney Allen Bushman son of Edward Roy Bushman and Viola Margaret Lorenz (Stevens) was born on 9/28/1960. Rod grew up in Carthage and graduated from Carthage High School in 1978. Rod went to college in Rapid City and Dakota State in Madison for business. Rod was united in marriage with Kathy Poncelet on September 6th, 1980 in Howard, SD, at St. Agatha church. They were blessed with two children, Laura and Sarah. They lived in Madison and Mitchell, where he worked at McDonald’s and the Holiday Inn for a short time. While going to school in Madison, Rod worked at his father in-law’s gas station on the weekends. Then they moved to Sioux Falls, where he worked for DMI for about 25 years as a parts man until he became disabled from back problems in recent years.
Rod loved spending time reading books on history and old cars. He liked talking about politics, playing cards with the family, and his favorite team the Packers. Most of all Rod loved being active in his children’s lives by coaching their softball and volleyball teams over the years. Rod’s grandchildren were the light of his life and he loved spending time with them, even at the hospital.
Rod is survived by his wife Kathy, children Laura and Sarah, and two grandchildren, Dennis and Laayla, all of Sioux Falls and his brother Randy (Pam) Lager of Carthage and his nieces and nephews.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Bushman and Viola Lorenz, his sister, Mary, and his brother, Richard.
