Robert "Bob" Lane, age 85, of Forestburg, died Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Monday, June 21, 2021, at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard. Burial will follow at the Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell.
Bob was born in Rochester, New York to Mark and Ethel VanOrdeier Lane.
Bob served in the US Army from 1952-1955, and was in the 24th Infantry Division, Far East Command, in Korea. While in Korea, he cleared anti-personnel mines and anti-tank mines along the DMZ for 17 months. Bob holds the UN Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, ROK presidential unit Citation, Korean Defense Service Medal. In 2002, he received the US Korean Service Medal from Senator Tim Johnson. Bob was a lifetime member of the VFW post 2752 in Mitchell.
After the war, Bob was united in marriage to Barbara Burley in 1957. To this union 5 children were born.
Bob was a EMT in Rochester New York, he also owned and operated a ambulance company for over 20 years. He then moved to Phoenix, AZ, were he drove truck before becoming employed at Cook Healthcare in Phoenix where he met his life partner and best friend Becky Zoss. In June of 1992, they moved to Forestburg where he worked at PVCC in Woonsocket SD as a certified nursing assistant. Bob retired in 2002, where he and Becky then enjoyed a quiet life. He loved South Dakota, all it's open spaces and friendly people.
Blessed to have shared his wonderful life for over 31 years is his companion and best friend Becky Zoss of Forestburg.
He is also survived by 4 daughters Marsha Lane of Sun City, AZ, Melonie Lane of Gold Bar, WA, Melinda Lane of Filmore, UT, and Jane Kelly of Rochester, NY; two sons Robert Lane Jr., and William (Cathy) Lane of Sun City, AZ; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four sisters, Ginger Benson of AZ, Susie Rindlisbaker of ID, Bonnie Molinari of NY, and Shirley (Terry) Huntoon of NY; one brother Joseph (Felicia) Molinari of NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mark and Ethel, a daughter Mary, sister Virginia Lane, brothers Richard and Ronald Lane, his niece Lisa, and his 1st friend in SD, Granny.
