Perry Genzlinger Obituary

Perry Arthur Genzlinger, 94, of Howard went to his heavenly home on Friday, March 1, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society, Howard. Funeral services will be 2pm, Monday, March 4, 2019 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Howard, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Howard. Visitation with family present will be Sunday from 3pm to 5pm at the Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard, SD. Perry Arthur Genzlinger was born on September 28, 1924 to Arthur and Lillie (Laible) Genzlinger, on the family farmstead east of Howard, South Dakota. Perry attended country school through the eighth grade. He then began to farm with his Dad. After his Dad’s death, Perry continued to live and farm on the family homestead, where he lived all his life raising crops and livestock. Perry was united in marriage to Marjorie Neises on October 5, 1949 at the St. Agatha Parsonage in Howard. To this union 6 children were born, Barbara, Geraldine, Larry, Dennis, Raymond and Michael. Perry was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Howard. Perry was a lifetime member, a past Trustee and served as an usher for over 70 years. Perry was very active in 4-H as a child and adult. He judged livestock and was a member of the livestock judging team that won the state contest, along with Bill and Harold Liable. The national contest was to be held in Chicago, but that year it was cancelled due to the war. Perry was a 4-H Leader of the Clearwater Country Cousins for many years and his voice could be heard announcing the swine show at the achievement days. Perry served on the swine committee also for many years. In 2012, Perry was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame at the South Dakota State Fair. Perry was able to attend Achievement Days this past summer to watch his grandson, great grandson, (the 4th generation to show) and his two daughters-in-law show livestock in Miner County. Perry was selected friend of 4-H in 1987 and 2004. Community was very important to Perry, as he was an EMT in Miner County for 25 years, serving as the Manager of the Miner County Ambulance for over 13 years and was chosen EMT of the year. Perry also was a member of the Miner County Pork Council for numerous years. Perry was a member of the Howard American Legion. Perry served as the chairman of the Advisory board of the Good Samaritan Society in Howard for numerous years. Perry had a way of joking and teasing those who visited with him. He loved spending time with his friends and family. He enjoyed hunting pheasants and his trips to the Black Hills to hunt deer with his friends.
