Orrin Thompson Obituary

Orrin James Thompson, 91, of Howard, formerly of Fedora and Rapid City, passed away at the Avera Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 11am, Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Endeavor Presbyterian Church, Fedora, with burial to follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Artesian. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5pm to 7pm, at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard. Orrin James Thompson was born September 2, 1927 on a farmstead north of Fedora, South Dakota to Robert and Emily (Cundy) Thompson. He grew up in the Fedora area where he attended Fedora High School, graduating in 1945. Orrin then helped on the family farm for a while. Orrin was united in marriage to the love of his life, Betty Hosmer on June 26, 1949, at Glenview Congregation Church, north of Fedora, South Dakota. The couple then farmed, Orrin started doing electrical work also and in 1965, moved into Artesian, South Dakota. There he began working full time in his electrical business. In 1984, the couple moved to Rapid City and Orrin continued working as an electrician, retiring in 1994. Orrin and Betty, in 2002 made their home in Howard. Orrin lived an upright and honorable life and was highly loved by all who knew him. He was a member of Glenview Congregational Church and in later years was a friend of the Endeavor Presbyterian Church. Orrin also enjoyed playing cards, bowling, camping and traveling with the family and in his retirement, became very involved in family genealogy and his Commodore computers. Those grateful for having shared in his life include his wife Betty Thompson of Howard, SD; three sons Larry (MaryAnn) Thompson of Glenwood Springs, CO; Robert (Susan) Thompson of Rapid City, SD; Steve (Karen) Thompson of Blair, NE; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Delores Thompson of Brandon, SD; other relatives and friends. Orrin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Dean, Cecil, two sisters Leta Trusty and Goldie Jones.
