Orpha Abrahamson, age 98, formerly of the Howard area, died Tuesday, December 10, 2019, in Sioux Falls. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Howard. Inurnment will take place before the service at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery west of Oldham.
Orpha Peterson was born August 29, 1921, to P.E. and Clara (Hoganson) Peterson at Oldham. She was the youngest of five children. She was baptized and confirmed at Oldham Lutheran Church. Orpha attended Oldham Public School where she graduated in 1939 before attending General Beadle in Madison for one year. On September 22, 1940, Orpha married Ernest Abrahamson at Oldham Lutheran Church and to this union, three children were born.
Ernest and Orpha farmed in the Oldham, Madison, and Howard vicinity. In 1961, they moved to Sioux Falls and were members of St. John Lutheran Church. Orpha worked at the Lutheran Manor nursing home and the couple relocated to Howard in 1990. In 2011, Orpha moved to Leisure Living in Hartford. Ernest passed away in 2004. Orpha loved her family, writing letters, playing games; and sewing.
Those grateful for sharing her life are her children, Sharon (Bob) Adams of Estancia, NM, and Doyle (Betty) Abrahamson of Fulda, MN; son-in-law, Mark Rose of Frederick, CO; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest; daughter Lachel Rose; parents, P.E. and Clara Peterson; parents-in-law, P.G. and Thea Abrahamson; grandson, Loren Adams; siblings and their spouses, Harold (Alice) Peterson, Genevieve (Roy) Bumann, Evangeline (Herman) Larson, Lenore (Bill) Morel, in-laws and their spouses, Pearl (Andrew) Mitchell, Gladys (Will) Apland, and James (Wilma) Abrahamson.
