Obituary

Naomi Joan Thompson (Deming), age 81, of Omaha, Nebraska, died August 14, 2022, at Life Care Center of Elkhorn after battling Dementia and Alzheimer’s for 12 years. Funeral Services will be 2:30 pm, Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard with Rev. Richard Poppen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Artesian, South Dakota, following the services.

Naomi Thompson was born November 2, 1940, in Mitchell, to Ernie and Velma (Stumn) Deming. She was a country girl at heart loving the outside and all animals. Growing up she went to a country school in Miner County, later graduating High school from Fedora High in 1959.

Naomi was united in marriage to Vernon Leroy Thompson on October 29, 1960, at the Presbyterian Church in Fedora. She lived on the farm in Miner County and worked in Huron as a clerk at the clothing store. She gave birth to Timmy Thompson on July 3, 1962, and Todd Thompson on December 8, 1964. They then moved to Madison where she got a job at a truck stop. The family moved to Omaha in 1970. Naomi was a stay-at-home mom for several years. Her desire to help people lead her to getting a job at Bergan Mercy Hospital. She worked as a nurse’s aide and would come home talking about all the stuff she did. It seemed like hard dirty work a lot of times to us, but she loved helping people and would tell the stories with pride and joy. Cutbacks at the hospital caused nurses aids to get laid off so she went back to focusing on family. She had odd jobs at different stores, but she started doing dog rescues and for as long as she could she took care of all the dogs others didn’t want. She gave happy lives to dogs without legs, eyes, no lower jaw, and mostly to her family.

Those grateful for having shared her life include her husband Vernon of Omaha, NE; sons: Timmy (Kristine) of Omaha, NE.; Todd (Michelle) of Omaha, NE; Grand Children: Liam and Seth; two Brothers: Donald (Judy Deming and Jerry (Bev) Deming, numerous nieces, nephews, and everyone was her friend.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents Velma (1986) and Ernie (1992) Deming.
