Maynard Leo Bender

Maynard Leo Bender, 95, of Howard, SD passed away October 10, 2023, at Howard Good Samaritan Society, Howard. SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, 10:30 a, October 14, 2023, at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard with burial to follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Howard. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.

Maynard Leo Bender was born December 9, 1927, at the Canova Hospital. Canova. SD to Henry and Mary (Miller) Bender. He was raised near Canova and as a young child attended the Burbank School. The family then moved southeast of Canova, later near Winfred, and in the fall of 1948, the family moved to a homestead northeast of Howard in Adams Township.

Maynard farmed most of his life, retired in 1988, when he moved into Howard. Maynard resided in his home on the southeast part of town until 2008, when he became a resident of the Howard Good Samarian Society Assisted Living area.

Maynard was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church, Howard, and the Knights of Columbus of Howard. He served on the Adams township board and the Sun Terrace Board for numerous years.

Maynard is survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Leona Roth, Arlene Koltz, Grace Johnson and a brother Carl Bender.
