Mark A. Niffenegger

Mark A. Niffenegger, 65, died at his home in Howard, South Dakota Thursday, August 31, 2023.  Cremation arrangements will be through Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard, SD.  A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Mark A. Niffenegger, middle son of Darrell L. Niffenegger and Marlene L. (Karstens) Niffenegger was born August 22, 1958 in Huron, South Dakota.  His family relocated to Azusa, CA in 1959 and then to San Dimas, CA in 1966 where he attended San Dimas High School and made many life-long friends.  He married Karen Fife and had one daughter, Danielle, before divorcing. After many years building a life and friendships in California, he returned to South Dakota in 2007 where he continued to establish himself as a self-employed independent contractor.  He met Stefanie Opp at work in 2008 and got engaged Oct. 1,2008, and spent 15 wonderful years together. Their beautiful daughter, Patty Ann Niffenegger arrived in 2009. He will be deeply missed but always in their hearts. Mark loved helping others and making people laugh, imparting his knowledge and sharing stories of his adventurous life with others.  

Mark is survived by daughter, Patty Ann Niffenegger, his fiance, Stefanie Opp, Howard, SD, sister, Jean (Niffenegger) Shepard, Sioux Falls, SD, brother, Michael (Mike) Niffenegger, Upland, CA, two grandchildren, Gavin and Abigail Chadwick, WA, two nephews, one niece, and many friends. 

Mark was preceded in death by his father and mother, Darrell and Marlene Niffenegger, and his oldest daughter, Danielle L. (Niffenegger) Chadwick.
