Larry Riden, age 84, of Howard, died Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Madison Regional Health from complications of multiple myeloma. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Belleview Lutheran Cemetery in Howard. Masks are strongly encouraged.
Larry Edward Riden was born December 6, 1935 to Harley and Esther (Fjellestad) Riden in Canova, SD. He attended country school through eighth grade and then attended Howard High School. He served in the National Guard until 1962. Upon discharge, he farmed on the family farm north of Howard. He met and soon married Joan Hoeye on February 22, 1964, in DeSmet, SD. In addition to farming, Larry sold Golden Harvest seed corn for 42 years. He spent 18 years serving on the Miner County Ambulance board, 12 years on the Howard Farmers Coop Association board and was a member of the Miner County Historical Society. He was a lifelong member of Belleview Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and cemetery board for many years. Larry retired from farming in 2007 and soon thereafter was diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan and daughter LeAnne (Cory) Bouma of Brandon. Granddaughter, Aria Bouma of Brandon, sister, Elloween (Gert) Boyles of Yankton and many relatives and friends.
