He even took a trip to Chicago as part of the state judging team.

Larry was a part of the Howard fastpitch softball team, as a pitcher. Later on he coached his children’s teams and became an umpire for the South Dakota Umpire Assoc for over 20 years. On Friday nights, you could find him spending his night at the bowling alley.

Larry helped farm the family land. He added pigs and cattle of his own. Always choosing to work with agriculture and livestock, he worked at the Howard Beef plant, Eich’s Meat Market and the Howard Cold Storage. He also worked for the Miner County Conservation Board and the Howard Co-op. He would never turn down helping anyone in need.

He married Cynthia in 1980 and adopted Chadwick and Sarah. They also had two children Adam and Tessa. Later in life, Larry had two more children with LaDonna, Allissa and Lindsey. He became a grandfather in 2004. Sarah, Savannah, Hailey, and Brayden all loved spending time with their Papa Larry.

His mom taught him the ways of the kitchen. Canning was one of those things, making endless jars for family and friends.

Larry enjoyed the outdoors more than most. Hunting and fishing were his favorite pastimes. He even took 3 trips to Canada with two of his children to go on bear hunts. He was successful on all 3 of his trips, adding a fourth from Minnesota. He had countless deer tags for East and West River. He got his prized elk in the Custer State Park, and got a few antelope over the years. He enjoyed taking his nephews out for a goose or pheasant hunt. Larry even threw in a couple turkeys.
