Obituary

Joseph Robert Abrahamson, an incredibly kind and loving young man, died unexpectedly at the age of 27 on August 7, 2022. A brief memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the Beach United Methodist Church in Howard. There will be no visitation.

Joey was born in Madison, on June 22, 1995, to his parents Teresa and David Abrahamson, and three sisters, Kaitlyn Abrahamson, Erianne Gustaf, and Kelli Gustaf.

Joey grew up loving playing outside in the trees with his sister, Kaitlyn, in the summertime and playing board games with his family in the winter. He was such a creative thinker, constantly building new inventions and implementing them around the farm. His motorcycle, computer, and metal and woodworking projects were some of his favorite things to work on. Joey was passionate about hunting and fishing, caring for animals, reading, skiing, boating, and having fun with his family.

Joey graduated from Howard High School in 2014 and went to college soon after. Joey attended South Dakota State University for mechanical engineering. He received high grades in his engineering courses, excelling in math and science. He made friends easily and was the life of the party. After college, Joey worked in Sioux Falls briefly and went back home to help his parents on the farm.

Joey was an incredibly loving soul who cared deeply for the people around him. He was a good friend to those who sought his advice, a deeply empathetic listener, and an exceptionally gentle and supportive companion to have when life was difficult. His profound compassion for his family, his pets, and his friends had no end. Joey will be remembered the most bowfishing in the overflows of Lake Thompson with his friends, spending time on his boat with his family, target shooting and hunting with his dad, playing games with his sister, and taking long walks and bicycle rides around the farm with his mom. His knack for making people laugh, his silliness, and his gentle heart will be forever cherished.

Joey is survived by his mother and father, Teresa and David Abrahamson, his sisters, Kaitlyn Abrahamson, Erianne Gustaf, and Kelli Gustaf, his brother-in-law Toby Jensen, and his niece, Eleanor Jensen.
