Gary R. Tripp

Gary R. Tripp, age 77, of Howard, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 10, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the Beach United Methodist Church in Howard. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Howard. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Friday, January 14, 2022, at Willoughby Funeral Home.

Gary was born June 1, 1944, in Mitchell, to Dorothy (Hagge) and Robert Tripp. Some of his childhood was spent in California before moving to Howard. Throughout his childhood much of his time was spent on his Grandpa Hagge’s farm where his love for farming began. He attended school in Howard. He worked in trade industries including power line work. He had a love for playing baseball and competing in sports.

He married Miriam Lusk on July 9, 1965, at the Beach United Methodist Church in Howard. They resided on a farm North of Canova and were blessed with 2 children, David and Shannon. He milked cows faithfully each and every day for 17 years. He concluded his farming career by raising and selling Holstein steers before retiring due to failing health. 

Gary served the community in many ways. He was active on the Miner County Extension Board for 9 years, Howard Farmer’s Elevator for 11 years and Miner County Golf Course Board for 6 years. He loved to play golf, loved fixing and building golf clubs and socializing over coffee or at the Golf Course.

Gary is survived by his wife, Miriam; daughter Shannon Becker of Miller; granddaughter Deidra and 2 great grandsons of Miller; sister Vicki (Jack) Treloar of La Mars, IA. Also blessed to have experienced life with Gary are his many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Judy, and his son David.
