Florence Sturdevant, age 90, of Canova, died Friday, February 14, 2020, at the Avera Brady Home in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery rural Canova. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Florence Lucille Sturdevant was born November 26, 1929, to Leo and Lena Goldammer in rural Hillside, South Dakota. She was the oldest of eight children, this was the beginning of her drive to work hard.  That work ethic, instilled by her mother and father, carried through to her entire adult life. Florence was united in marriage to Boyd Sturdevant, January 10th, 1949, in Pipestone, Minnesota.  To this union four daughters were born.

Florence enjoyed taking trips back to the Hillside area and reminiscing about  fond childhood memories of St. Johns Lutheran Church, the playhouse under the trees, walking to the country store for candy, and walking two miles to school every day.  Florence enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, and making many Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren. Family was of the utmost importance to her.  Florence always made sure the needs of others were met before her own, this showed her true life trait of being humble and practicing humility.

She is survived by her four daughters, Janet Sturdevant, Shenandoah, Iowa; LuAnn McCannel, Birchwood, Wisconsin; Debra (Cliff) Zens, Wellington, Kansas; Becky (Mark) Gaulke, Mitchell, South Dakota; grandchildren, Kelly Zens and husband Aaron Hover,  Maggie Zens Bhatta (Gautam), Emily Zens, Laura Zens and husband Josh Ferry, Brandon McCannel, Lindsey (Dan) Morrison,Casey (Jesse) Martin, Ross Gaulke, (Skye Densmore), Matt (Brianna) Gaulke; great-grandchildren, Henry Hover, Liam Hover, Maddi Gaulke and Dax Morrison; sisters, Joanne Schultz, Karlene Koepsell and Maxine Karstens; brothers, Duane Goldammer and Lee Goldammer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Boyd Sturdevant; son-in law, Duncan McCannel; sister, Shirley Zens; brother Delbert Goldammer; and sister-in law, Muriel Skelton.
