Esther M. Ischen

Esther M. Ischen, age 89, of Fedora, died Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, February 10, 2020, at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artersian. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday.

Esther Gullickson was born October 12, 1930, on a farmstead in Miner County, to Carl and Eva (Pierpont) Gullickson. She grew up in the Burbank Township area. She was a talented athlete in her formative years and was a standout girls basketball player for Fedora High School where she graduated in 1949. Esther was united in marriage to Fred Ischen on October 9, 1949.

Esther and Fred lived, farmed, and raised their two daughters, Mona and Ruth in rural Fedora. Esther and Fred cherished time spent with close friends and family and also enjoyed many years of competitive bowling league and tournaments as a hobby. They continued farming until Fred fellill with cancer and died on October 19, 1991. After Fred’s passing, Esther continued to enjoy visits from family as well as frequent visits from the lifelong friends she and Fred made over the years.

Those grateful for having shared her life include her daughter, Ruth; one sister, Dorothy; nephew, Wayne; grandchildren, Dawlton and Chauntee; one great-grandchild, Margaret; and many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred in 1991; daughter Mona; two sisters, Alice and Grace; and two brothers, Lloyd and Robert.
