Richard Schwader Jr. age 66 of Madison, SD died Saturday, July 28, 2018, at his home.
The funeral service is Monday, August 6 at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard, SD, at 10:30, with visitation from 9:30. Burial is at St. Joseph’s cemetery, with lunch following at St. Agatha’s Catholic Church, also in Howard, SD.
Richard Louis Schwader, Jr. was born October 21, 1951, in Madison, SD, the son of Richard & Gertrude (Winker) Schwader. At age seven, Richard entered the Redfield State Hospital (eventually renamed The South Dakota Developmental Center) in Redfield, South Dakota. In 1999, he moved to Madison, SD, and was a resident at Every Citizen Counts Organization (ECCO)/Valiant Living. Richard enjoyed visits from family, listening to his brother’s guitar playing, his mother’s home-made bread, M & Ms, and taking walks.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Richard Schwader and Gertrude (Trudy) Schwader. He is survived by his siblings Linda & (Gerald) Snyder, Sally Schwader, Rita & (Michael) Bode, Tony & (Sandra) Schwader, Marilyn (MJ) Schwader, Judith & (Rodney McNeice) Schwader, Carol & (Bradley) Keenan; many nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Those who also shared his life included his special caregivers at Redfield and ECCO/Valiant Living. He is remembered as being tenacious at times, although he had a bubbly personality that could light up the room.
