Phyllis Naomi (Smith) Wenz

Phyllis N. Wenz, 83, of Vilas, South Dakota passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society, Howard, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10am, Monday, October 16, 2017 at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard, South Dakota. Burial will be at 1pm, Monday at Rest Lawn Memory Gardens, Huron, South Dakota. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Phyllis Naomi Smith was born September 24, 1934 at Calwood, Missouri to Burton and Ellen (Miller) Smith. She grew up and attended school until she was ten years old. This is when the family moved to Iroquois, South Dakota. Phyllis went to high school and before graduating started working for families in the area, she later worked in Huron, South Dakota. While working in Huron she met the love of her life Edward Wenz and were married on October 12, 1952 at Huron. The couple lived and farmed for a while south of Huron. They then moved to a farm south of Iroquois and later to Canova in 1963 and settling in Vilas in 1977.

Phyllis was active in the community, enjoyed gardening, sewing and loved to cook and bake for anyone, especially her family, as she would always put on a feast. Phyllis dearly loved her family and loved her visits with her grandchildren. She also had a special spot for her dog Toby.

Those grateful for having shared in her life include her two sons: Gary (Marita) Wenz of Vilas, SD; Kyle (Jackie) Wenz of Mitchell, SD; her two daughters: Nancy Wolf of Alpena, SD; Kathy (Scott) Bandy of Dallas, TX; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters: Virginia (Tom) Augenbaugh of Tehachapi, CA; Dorothy Dory of Springfield, MO; other relative and friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward; three sisters: Nadine, Jean and Lucille and two brothers: Glenn and Winston.
