Jo Ann Sherman, 85, of Howard, South Dakota passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society, Howard. Funeral services will be 11am, Friday, February 16th, 2018 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Howard, with burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery, Howard. Visitation will begin Thursday at noon with the family present from 5pm to 7pm at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard.
Orpha Jo Ann Stalheim was born August 25, 1932 on a farmstead near Wakonda, South Dakota to Howard and Ida (Knudson) Stalheim. When she was a young child, the family moved to the Howard area. Jo attended country school and later Howard High School, graduating in 1951.
Jo was united in marriage to John Sherman on September 20, 1951 at Howard. John was in the service, stationed in California and Washington. The couple returned to the Howard area after he was honorably discharged. Jo worked for several offices and agencies throughout her working career and worked as a partner in their family businesses.
Jo was a life time member of Bethany Lutheran Church and ladies aid. Jo also belonged to a Miner County Saddle Club and was involved as a Cub and Boy Scout Leader. Jo enjoyed horseback riding, dancing the Polka as it was her favorite. She did quilting, crocheting, and camping was also a favorite past time of hers, as she loved and enjoyed being around her family and friends.
Those grateful for having shared in her life include her husband John Sherman of Howard, SD; four sons Gary (Yo) Sherman of Salem, SD; Randy (Marcia) Sherman of Howard, SD; Tom Sherman of Lennox, SD; Roger (Carol) Sherman of Tea, SD; Eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two sisters Lila (Don) Kaufman of Howard, SD and Kathy Nechvatal of Madison, WI.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Mavis Adler, Val Donaldson, a brother James Stalheim and a great grandson Levi Addy.
