Nancy A. Calmus

Nancy A. Calmus, age 65, of Howard, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls after a lengthy illness with her family by her side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Howard. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 PM at the church.

Nancy Aura Fox was born July 29, 1953, in DeSmet, SD, to Charles and Edith (Hewitt) Fox. She graduated from DeSmet High School in 1971 and then attended and graduated from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls. On October 7, 1972, Nancy married Bob Calmus at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard. They lived in Sioux Falls for six years before moving to Howard and purchasing the Calmus Homestead in 1978.

Nancy held numerous bookkeeping jobs including head accountant at Howard Farmers Coop and most recently as a loan officer at Dakotaland Federal Credit Union in Madison. She enjoyed meeting and serving the members of the credit union. Nancy retired in June of 2017 due to health issues.

Nancy always enjoyed attending all of her kid’s activities and helping with their 4-H projects. She loved Christmas shopping and spoiling her family as it was her favorite time of the year.

She is survived by her husband Bob of Howard; children, Russ (fiancé Jaime Johnson) Calmus of Sioux Falls, Sara (Daryl) Stadem-VanRegenmorter of Dell Rapids, Creta (Brady) Bender of Rapid City, and Logan (Kate) Calmus of Howard; five grandchildren, Cade, Adisen, Easton, Colton, and Chase; step-grandchildren, Sara, Drew, and Emma; one brother, Dick (Linda) Fox; one sister, Shirley (Rod) Wipf; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Tom.
