Mildred Marie (Laible) Hosmer

Mildred Marie (Laible) Hosmer, 96, of Howard, South Dakota passed away on Sunday, February 03, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society, Howard. Funeral services will be 2pm, Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Beach United Methodist Church, Howard, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Howard. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Mildred Marie Laible was born November 17, 1922 to Edwin and Clara (Stock) Laible, on the family farmstead three miles east, in Clearwater Twps., Miner County, South Dakota. Mildred graduated with a Class of 40 students in the year 1940, from Howard High School. She worked on the family farm and for several years as a secretary in an Insurance and Credit Union Office in Howard. In January of 1953 (and for the next 32 years), she worked in the Miner County Treasurers Office as the Deputy and Treasurer. In 1973, while county treasurer she was elected President of the South Dakota County Treasurers Association for one year and at different times she also was on the Legislative and Executive Committee of the Association. On October 16, 1983, Mildred and Dale Hosmer were united in marriage in the Beach United Methodist Church, Howard. Mildred was baptized and confirmed at Beach United Methodist Church, where she was a lifetime member. Mildred held many jobs in the church, such as UMW member, circle chairwoman, secretary and treasurer of the Sunday school for 54 years, a communion Stewart over 50 years. Mildred was also a member of the Miner County Republican Party, serving as the secretary and treasurer for over 30 years. Mildred and Dale dearly loved doing things together, traveling whenever they could. Mildred in survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale (2011), and two brothers Harold and William Laible.
