Lulu Lucille (Zimmermann) Anderson, 98, of Madison formerly of Howard, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Madison Care & Rehab. Center, Madison. Funeral services will be 10am, Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Beach United Methodist Church, Howard, with burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery, Howard. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard. Lulu Lucille Zimmermann was born December 27, 1919 to Walter and Everal (Fox) Zimmermann on a farmstead near Fedora, Miner County, South Dakota. Lulu grew up near Fedora and attended a rural school and graduated from Fedora High School in 1935. Lulu then attended Eastern Normal State College (now Dakota State Univ.) Madison, receiving a Teaching Certificate. Lulu later finished her BS degree from Dakota State College, Madison in 1971. Lulu married Norman Anderson on March 22, 1941 at Sibley, Iowa. She then taught rural schools at Vermillion Township, Roswell Township and Fedora before teaching at the Howard Public School. In 1948 the family started farming east of Canova and in 1957 they moved to a farm southwest of Howard. In 1967 the family moved into Howard where she continued teaching until her retirement. Norman died on February 13, 1995. Lulu was very active in her community and church, as she was one of the founding members of the MCCR group. She was also on the Museum board in Howard, Civic League, American Legion Auxiliary, and Rural County Teachers organization. Lulu was an active member of Beach United Methodist Church, Howard. Those grateful for having shared in her life are her children Carolyn (Winston) Genzlinger; Greg (Marianna) Anderson; ; Leon (Marsha) Anderson; Larry (Diana) Anderson; LuAnn (Jerry) Rice, Rochele (Randy) Bahm; a special friend Cody Dawson; Debbie Anderson (Nolan); twenty-seven grandchildren; fifty-two great grandchildren; four and a half great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Lulu was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman, son Nolan, grandson Adam Genzlinger, siblings Marvin, Doris, Arthur, Florence, Carl, Norma and Ruth.
