Lewis “Louie” Bernard Patterson, 86, of Howard, South Dakota passed away on April 23, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society, Howard. Memorial services will be 11am, Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Howard. Visitation will begin Friday with family present from 5pm to 7pm at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard. A private family burial will be held at a earlier time. Lewis Bernard Patterson was born on January 12, 1932 at Carthage, South Dakota to John and Carrie (VanScharrel) Patterson. He was raised by his Grandparents and Uncle. He attended Argonne School until the family moved to Grafton Township, where he attended Stokke Country School. Louie was inducted into the United States Army on February of 1952 and later received a medical discharge later in that year. On June 7th, 1953, he was married to Norma Hopper of Forestburg, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Huron, South Dakota. To this union three sons and a daughter were born. Louie was a member of Belleview Lutheran Church for 62 years. He served on the Church Council and mowed the lawn and cemetery for numerous years. He served on the Grafton Township Board and was a member of the Howard American Legion for over 50 years. Louie and Norma sold their farm in 1996 and moved into Howard. He drove truck for Dawson Construction, Ron Kuhle and Howard Farmers Coop. Louie is survived by his wife Norma of Howard, SD; sons: Curtis (Judy) Patterson of Florence, AL; Thomas (Joan) Patterson of Madison, SD; Lewis Gregory (Debra) Patterson of Colman, SD; daughter: Jennifer (Darrell) Seurer of Watertown, SD; 11 grandchildren: 16 great grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; a brother Donald (Lillie) Voelker of Ft. Wayne, IN. brother-in-law: Howard (Delrita) Hopper of Watertown, SD; sister-in-law: Marilyn Tucek of Mitchell, SD; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Louie was preceded in death by his parents. Brother George Voelker, sisters Nadine Patterson, Marlys Shull, a granddaughter Jennae Patterson.
