Joy J. (Merryfield) Scheel

Joy J. Scheel, 70, of Howard passed away Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society, Howard. Memorial services will be 11am, Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Beach United Methodist Church, Howard with burial at a later date. Joy Joyce Scheel was born July 25, 1948, at La Moure, North Dakota to Clinton and Gertrude (Porter) Merryfield. When Joy was four years old she moved to Verona, North Dakota and later in California, Pewaukee, Wisconsin and settling in Portage, Wisconsin, where she met the love of her life and was united to Dennis Scheel on January 28, 1967, at Poynette, WI. To this union three children were born, Cathi (1968), Sandy (1971) and Tanya (1977). Joy worked at numerous businesses but the one’s that were dear to her heart, were working and taking care of children, whether it was a after school program, Sunday school or at a daycare. Joy enjoyed horseshoe’s, fishing, hunting squirrel, reading, drawing and having children around the house, especially her grandchildren. Those grateful for having shared in her life include her husband Dennis Scheel of Howard, SD; her daughters Cathi (Ulysses) Abraham of Brown Valley, MN; Sandy (Jim) Schirmacher of Yankton, SD; her eight grandchildren Lyle (Kaitlyn), Shari, Nathan, Kassi, David, Jim Jr., Nikki, Melissa; her eight great grandchildren; Sammi, Curtis, Alyster, Archer, Leon, Melanie, Vincent, Anna- Marie. Her sisters Fay (Terry) Hanson and Donna Tosh both of Madison, WI.; Special friends Lea Selken and her son E. J. Leetch Robbie Drown and her family, Lynn Mentele and Lee Thames. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Wade and Duane Merryfield, a sister Mary Zimmerman and a daughter Tanya Scheel (2001).
