John Rostyne, 85, of Carthage, South Dakota, entered the gates of Heaven on Monday, February 25, 2019 at the Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11am, Friday, March 1, 2019 at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard, South Dakota with burial in Prairie Flower Cemetery, Fedora, South Dakota. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Friday. John Rostyne was born on July 28, 1933, in Colton, South Dakota to John and Ella (Fystro) Rostyne. At a young age, he moved with his family to a farm near Carthage. John served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. After returning from his service in Korea, he moved to St. Charles, Illinois to find work. While there, he married the love of his life, Virginia Corbin on September 6, 1957. Shortly after getting married the couple returned to Carthage and purchased a farm. There they raised three children, Mark, Travis, and Margie. John was a diversified farmer and had a passion for buying and selling used farm equipment. Many Saturdays you would find him at a farm auction. Later in life, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren. John held many offices as as active member of the Carthage Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the Carthage American Legion. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Rostyne; his children Travis Rostyne and his wife Stacy, and Margie Dehn and her husband Matt; his grandchildren, Miles Dehn, Mark Rostyne, Kennedy Rostyne, Caleb Kaas, and his wife Morgan, and Damon Kindt; his brother, Elwood Rostyne; and many other cherished family and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, son Mark 1976), his brothers, Clarence, Vernon, Norman, John (in infancy), and Delbert; and sisters, Judy and Ruby.
