Joan Irene (Feldhaus) Spader

Joan Irene Spader, 76, of Howard passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018, due to a vehicle accident near Mitchell, South Dakota. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 17, 2018 at St. Agatha Catholic Church, Howard.  Burial to follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Howard. Visitation will be Thursday starting at 5 p.m. with a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m. and Scripture service at 7 p.m. all at St. Agatha Catholic Church. Joan Irene Feldhaus was born June 6, 1942 in Canova, South Dakota to Bernard John and Mary Barbara (Reisch) Feldhaus. Joan was raised in the Howard area, where she attended St. Agatha Catholic School, graduating in 1960. She married the love of her life Darrel Spader on December 28, 1960. The couple lived in the Oldham area for a few months before Darrel was called to active duty. They then moved to Fort Sill, Oklahoma until August of 1962, when they moved back to a farm near Fedora, South Dakota. This is where they raised their children, retiring and moving into Howard in August of 2006. Joan started working at the Good Samaritan Center in 1976. She worked numerous departments there but was mainly involved in Activities. Joan touched many residents and co-workers lives while working there and will be missed by them. Joan enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking and doing anything involving the family such as camping and riding the motorcycle to Sturgis. Joan’s faith in the Lord was very strong and it lead her to have a servant heart helping anyone in need. Her greatest gift was loving others. Those grateful for having shared in her life include her husband Darrel of Howard, SD; her children Sherryl (Mike) Rankin of Woonsocket, SD; Joe (Carla) Spader of Glenwood, MN; Todd Spader of Howard, SD; Susan (Jeff) Anderson of Bruce, SD; Dana Spader of Madison, SD; grandchildren Melissa (Ryan) Esser of Canistota, SD; Ryan (Ashley) Cumbee of Redmond, WA; Luke (Grace) Cumbee of Sioux Falls, SD; Logan (Michelle) Spader of Hartford, SD; Dylan (Samantha) Spader of Brooten, MN; Shalee (Brandon) Bayne of Lincoln, NE; Molly (Devin) Stevens of Chester, SD; Cody Behlings of Bruce, SD; Dustin Bothwell of Northfield, MN; Adam Anderson of Rochester, MN; Emily Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD; great grandchildren Keira, Tristen and Jace Esser, Maxwell Spader, Maddisyn and Arya Spader, Lucy, Freya and Hayven Bayne, Holden and Trinity Stevens and Liam Brannen; her siblings Jerry (Betty) Feldhaus, Marilyn (Jim) Tucek, Marjorie Schoenrock, Irene Colling, Jeanne (Dick) Simpson, Bernard (Lorna) Feldhaus, Phyllis (John) Olson, Dennis (Myra) Feldhaus, Donna (Randy) Page; sister-in-law Elaine Feldhaus; other relatives and friends. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; brother Dick Feldhaus; brothers-in-law Fred Colling, George Voelker, Jim Tieszen, Ron Schoenrock.
