Franklin Voeltz, age 78, of Austin, MN died Monday, November 4, 2019.. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 9, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Church in Howard. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7PM, Friday, at Willoughby Funeral Home.
Franklin Daniel Voeltz was born on October 17, 1941, in Howard, to Frank and Lois “Millie” (Dorris) Voeltz. He graduated from Howard before enlisting in the Navy in 1960. Franklin served on the final voyage upon the USS Hancock as well as the maiden voyage upon the USS Lexington. On July 19, 1969, Franklin married the love of his life, Roxanne Hof.
Franklin owned Franklin’s bakery in Fulda, MN, for two years. He loved to bake, even making wedding cakes, graduation cakes, and baptismal cakes for several family members. He was an accomplished bowler. Franklin had two 300’s and finished 2nd place in the national bowling tournament in Las Vegas, NV. Most recently he was awarded his 35 year plaque for attendance at national tournaments.
He was also an avid Vikings fan. Like a true fan he was excited when they won and cussed when they lost. He was even able to attend a few games via his favorite Packer loving son-in-law. Above all else, Franklin loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always enjoyed the trips to the circus and the tea parties they had together.
He is survived by his wife Roxanne; three children, Rebecca (Tim) Swartz, Daniel Voeltz, and Franklin (Rebecca) Voeltz II; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Marvin (Shirley) Voeltz, Karl (Karen) Voeltz, MaryAnn (Phillip) Kester, Raymond Voeltz, Lisa Jo (Curtis) Brinkman, Tony (Tonette) Voeltz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one brother; one grandson; one nephew; and one great nephew.
