Angeline (Bilka) Wendt, born May 30, 1929, passed away peacefully at her residence in Bennington, NE, surrounded by family on Friday, October 18, 2019. Memorial services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, October 25, 2019, at the Endeavor Presbyterian Church in Fedora. Inurnment will follow at the Fedora Cemetery.
She was born to John and Frances Bilka at Geddes, SD. The family moved to Bennett County for a few years and then moved to Brule County where she grew up. In 1941, they moved to Artesian, SD, where she finished grade school at the Hudson, Manley, and Rankin schools, then attended Artesian High School, graduating in 1947. She then attended summer school at General Beadle State College in Madison, SD, and received a second grade certificate. That fall she taught the Ludwig School in Ravenna Township, SD. She married Frederick Wendt on May 28, 1948 and they moved to the Lead/Deadwood area of South Dakota.
She worked at the Ben Franklin Store for 3 years, they then moved to the farm at Fedora SD. In 1954, they moved to Mitchell, SD, and then returned to the farm near Fedora, SD where they farmed for several decades. After retiring from farming they moved to Mitchell, SD and then to Bennington, NE.
Angeline is survived by her husband Frederick, sister Anna, her children Deborah (Greg) White of Prairie du Sac, WI, Douglas (Tami) Wendt of Sioux Falls, SD, Chris (Darlene) Wendt of Charlotte, NC, and Carol(Michael) Bigley of Omaha, NE. She had three grandchildren (Kevin, Chris, and Taylor), and three great grandchildren (Elliott, Davitt, and Christian).
