Nila Jean (Robinson) Weidler, 96, of Howard, South Dakota passed away on January 18th, 2024, at the Madison Regional Health System, Madison, South Dakota. A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00am, January 22, 2024, at St. Agatha Catholic Church, Howard, with a visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Inurnment will be held at Graceland Cemetery, Madison following the services. Nila Jean Robinson was born in Madison on October 9th, 1927, the only child of Marguerite and Ralph Robinson. At the age of three the family moved fifteen miles northwest of Madison, where she attended Schuster Country School and was the only one in her class all through to the eighth grade. Nila then attended Ramona High School in Ramona, South Dakota, graduating in 1945, with only four in her class. Nila worked in Madison and for a wind charger plant in Sioux City, Iowa for a short time. Nila then returned home to the family farm, due to her father’s health. Nila’s love for old-time dances and music helped bring her to a dance in Oldham, South Dakota where she meets the love of her life, Vincent Weidler, in the summer of 1950. Nila and Vince were married on December 27, 1951, in Howard. The couple then lived on a farm northwest of Howard for nine years. They then moved to a farm five miles southeast of Howard for the next 60 plus years. In 2010, they moved into Howard where they lived at the Sunrise Terrace apartment complex, and then in 2017, moving to the Whispering Winds Assisted living in Howard, where Vince passed away on January 25, 2020. Nila enjoyed farm life helping her husband with the chores, field work, sports and activities of the children and Vince’s music. Nila loved to crochet and knitting, giving away many afghan items to her family and friends. Nila was a true fan and support of Vince’s music during her life. Those grateful for having shared in her life include her two sons: Ron (Judy) Weidler and Gary (Glenda) Weidler all Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a daughter: Marita (Gary) Wenz of Howard, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren, all living in the Sioux Falls, Canistota and Howard area’s. Nila was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vincent, and her in-laws: Elmer and Lena Weidler.
