George L. Loudenslager, 75, of Brewster, MN, formerly of Howard, passed away of natural causes on Friday, January 25, 2013, at his winter home in Safety Harbor, Florida.
Funeral Services will be 11;00 AM, Friday, February 1, 2013 at Beach United Methodist Church, Howard, with burial and Military Honors to follow in Graceland Cemetery, Howard. Visitation will begin Thursday at noon, with a Prayer Service 7:00 PM, at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard.
George Luther Loudenslager was born July 6, 1937 in Waynesboro, Mississippi to Joseph and Myrtle (Miles) Loudenslager. George lived in Mississippi until the age of 10, when his family relocated to Howard. He was a graduate of Howard High School, class of 1955. On August 3, 1956, George was united in marriage to Vesta Lusk and Howard. George attended Dakota Wesleyan Univ., Mitchell and graduated from Augustana College, Sioux Falls with a BS Degree in Chemistry. In his lifetime he furthered his education receiving his Masters and Specialist Degreeās in Education Administration. The couple then moved to Brewster, Minnesota in 1966, where he was a teacher and then Superintendant until he retired in 1997.
George also had a long and distinguished military career spanning 37 years from 1954 to 1991. George obtained the rank of Colonel and served in various staff and command positions in the 147th Field Artillery, South Dakota Army National Guard and the 5033rd US Army Reserve.
Those grateful for having shared his life included his wife: Vesta of Brewster, MN; four sons: Todd (Maggie) of Eden Prairie, MN; Kelly (Jill) of Sioux Falls, SD; Kerry (Doreen) of Edmond, OK; Brent (Amy) of Omaha, NE; two daughters: Heidi Meyer of Sioux Falls, SD; Joi (Mark) Hasz of Menno, SD; a brother: Joe (Ann) Loudenslager of Oldsmar, FL; and fifteen grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Myrtle; a brother: Bill and a sister: Eunice Lien.
